Frequently Asked Questions:

"Where are you located?"

We are located in Grantsburg, Indiana on a 66-acre farm in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest. All of our products get tested in the Hoosier National, or our own forests and waterways.

"Do you have a physical store?"

Not currently, but we are working on that! We hope to be able to offer opportunities to visit us for in-person shopping in Southern Indiana sometime in 2026!

"Do you make custom-order products?"

Again, not currently. We have done this in the past, but it's time-consuming work, and currently, I am short on time to devote to such projects, and currently there is a lack of proper workshop space for this kind of project. That said, it is something we hope to be able to do in the future.

"Where are your products made?"

A decent amount of our products are made right here in our workshop in Southern Indiana. Others are made by fellow craftsmen in the area. Most of our clothing is made overseas. This is largely due to the lack of availability of wool fabrics in the USA, plus the fact that we don't have a good sewing workshop here. Our USA-made products will include a "Made in USA" symbol in with the product photographs.

"Can you make (insert historical garment here) for me?"

Again, we don't take custom orders currently, however, we can sometimes make products, especially footwear, in sizes that we don't offer on the website. In this situation, we would ask that the order be pre-paid, and it may take 3-6 months for delivery, because we do those products in production lots, so we have to amass a large enough order to produce a run. We've also found that if these orders aren't pre-paid in advance, we end up getting ghosted when the product has arrived and have to sit on a pair of 15 double-wide shoes forever. We are always open to future product suggestions, however, and we gauge interest in a new design based on how many people continually ask for it, so ask away!

"Will you set up your tent-store at my event?"

Maybe. It's a big setup and takes a lot of effort. Usually, my two oldest kids help, so events that require travel or Friday setup are easiest done during school breaks. We also have a minimum visitor/participant attendance requirement, just to make sure the trip will at least break even. Feel free to tell us about your event and we will consider it!

"Can I return or exchange an item?"

Absolutely! We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. Read our full return and exchange policy here.

"My item doesn't quite fit just right, but I don't want to return it. What can I do?"

If you have fitting issues, but don't wish to return or exchange your order, there are some options, depending on the issue. Remember that EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT and it is difficult to make clothing off-the-rack that fits everyone. This was a problem even in the period, and the reason why the department stores and sporting goods stores 100 years ago had in-house alterations available. This IS something we hope to add eventually! However, until then, here are some common concerns and how to fix them:

Buttonholes are too tight for buttons:

This is easily fixed. Sometimes the buttonholes, especially on our wool shirts, don't get opened up all the way. A seam-ripper, or razor knife will do a great job of enlarging the buttonholes. Just be sure not to cut the actual binding stitches of the buttonhole itself. Only cut the fabric threads inside the sewn buttonhole.

Cuff is too small/too big:

In most cases, simply moving the button will solve the problem. This is always the case when the cuff is too big. If it is too small to button, but the fabric reaches around, move the button outward. If the fabric doesn't reach, you will need to exchange for another size.

Button fell off:

Sometimes this just happens. Sew it back on. You got this! If you need a replacement button, send us a message and we will send you a replacement button.

Waist is a little too big:

On trousers and the like, this can be easily remedied by taking a tuck on one or both sides of the trousers at the side seams. This will be less noticeable than taking a tuck in the back.
