Battle of Blair Mountain Neckerchief

$11.99Price

From August 25th to September 2nd, 1921, coal miners in West Virginia waged war on the coal companies, Baldwin-Felts detectives, and the National Guard in an effort to improve mining conditions. This became one of the most famous worker revolts in American history. Legend has it that the term "redneck" was coined during this action because of the red neckerchiefs the miners wore as a makeshift uniform. One of these neckerchiefs still exists in the West Virginia State Museum. We have done our best to re-create this famous bandana, not simply as an artifact of the mine wars, but also as a solidly documented late-teens, early-20s neckerchief. Our version is remarkably close to the design of the tattered original. See photos for details. Measures approximately 21.5" square. 100% cotton.
